by JaySmilez Alle’ Mon The race is not for the swift but for the ones who can endure, Live today as if it’s your last for nothing in this yah life nuh sure. Who feels it knows it, seek and you will find, And by that it doesn’t mean it is okay for you to try and confiscate mine. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, Two wrongs don’t make a right, nothing nuh deh deh suh fi pursue. No man is an island, no man stand alone. True wealth isn’t based on vanity or the things you claim you own. If Knowledge is key, them say education woulda free, This whole system a trick we, dung to the blind can see. The bible say by the sweat of your brow a man shall eat, Wherever a man lays his bed that’s where he shall sleep. Patience is a virtue, them say good things comes to those who wait, Don’t misinterpret the thing and solely depend on the powers of faith. You have to put in fi get out, hard work is the key to success, Moves affi mek, nuh care how you bless. Do good and good will follow you, Actions and words spoken anuh nothing weh yuh can undo. Opportunity comes once in a lifetime, You have to put yourself out there fi see it, Don’t just dream it, be it. Make hay while the sun shines, Do positive things to uplift yourself, keep the energy up to elevate mankind. Dem say when trouble tek yuh pickney shut fit yuh, Know what you are about and nuh mek nuhbadi trick yuh. Humble calf suck di most milk, But do nuh mek nuhbadi programme you how fi think. Knowledge is power, wisdom is key, And with that being said, I think we all can agree. MAAFA By Asafo Weedamiah Sometimes I feel the whip across I n I forefathers back Skin discolored red, white, & blue/purple with festering sores Where they were once perfect black Though they shackled his blak body, they could never break his mind He bore the pain by reminiscing of I kingland of ancient time And how he vowed in his blak heart that someday he will, NO MUST return To the land of I n I people who faces they say look sunburn And as he prayed to the God of his ancestors, to deliver all of his children From the hands of these wicked, evil, cruel, and barbaric white men And as he asked his JAH, to return the not yet born Afrikan child To once again play from the heart of the Congo all the way to the banks of the river nile As he tried to forget how his lover, his sister, even his very mother had been defiled Gaining comfort from the knowledge that everything is but for a while… So, he trained his mind, to black out all pain Choosing to be called insensitive rather than go insane His blak body scarred by the weight of their whips, their shackles, and chains Of the 13 blak children he fathered, now look only 3 remain 2 of them were hung, from that great big oak tree 3 of them died, before the tender age of three 4 were sold, 2 of which, were taken far across the sea 1 of them ran away Cause in his blak heart He “yearned to be free” And how I great-grandfather taught, those children that still remained Of the place Itiopia/Afrika from whence we all came Still not all listened, when I n I great-grandfather spoke I guess to them being Black Kings and Black Queens sounded like a joke 1 of them listened and this knowledge I did acquire The Knowledge of I Blak self, I Blak JAH, I Blak King, and I Blak Afrikan Empire The Free
by JaySmilez Alle Mon I want to be free, free like the birds and the wind, But first I must acknowledge that it is within me that freedom begins. Free in the sense of breaking loose, Letting the true me take over as I embrace my roots. Free as in, living life at no cost, Counting my blessings while I appreciate my loss. Free, being able to simply express my thoughts, My feelings, my highs and my lows, Not having to worry about what others think or if they will try to impose On my freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of expression, Being me with everything I have, for no one I shall make no exception. Free and being confident enough to follow my own direction. I say free, free to stand on my own Not being afraid to face the world alone. Free to make my own decisions, not being afraid of who may judge, Free to accept the way life is; free to understand that it is yourself first that you should love. Free like the word itself, only four letters but powerful as can be, Free with no restrictions; just want to be free to face my own life predictions I need no constriction in my life, for being free is being me. by JaySmilez Everything happens for a reason, Just like summer, winter, spring, everything has its own season. The earth, the sun, the stars and the sky, Every living thing has its own way of getting by. The world is a cycle, Just like papers and bottles getting recycled You have to experience sadness to know what happiness is, In order to receive at some point you must learn how to give. A chain reaction, that is the best way I can put it, It is either you are against or you are with it. Life is whatever you make it, Just like a loaf of bread it is your duty to bake it. It is you whom determine your destiny Your choice, your dreams, your hope The consequences are yours; it is you who has to cope. Life is a cycle, seasons for different reasons, Some of which at times I barely understand, But the beauty of life is to know exactly where the I stand. I always try to make the best of it, Allowing Jah to take care of the rest of it. Seeing that this life is getting so advanced People trying to captivate the mind but still I take my chance An open mind is what I do have, it keeps me awake. So I’ll know exactly what to do if life ever throws me an earthquake It’s called life….. Who are you to judge?
by JaySmilez Shhhhhhh look, listen and observe, She whispered, how dare you describe me with such words? Who are you to judge me when you don’t even know my name? Come to think of it, aren’t all sins measured just the same? I go day by day thinking to myself, Why do people like you always have bad things to say about people like me but yet not yourself? Is it your job to judge or criticize? Have you ever tried getting to know beyond the eyes? Do you ever think for a second that this isn’t who I am? Would it kill you to take the time out to know the story beyond what you see? That this person isn’t me, Just like you did, my aspiration was to go to college to get a degree. Be successful and independent, simply stress free But life don’t always go the way you want, Especially having so much people above you telling you that you can’t Don’t we all have dreams? Just that, not everyone’s dream comes through I do aspire to be a better me, I think you should try working on being a better you too. Who are you to judge …..? |
